General Information

Introduction Session and Beginner’s Course

Below you will find some Information for those wishing to give archery a try at our Introduction sessions as well as those who have already discovered their inner Robin Hood and wish to take it further by attending a Beginner's course, with the ulimate aim of joining an archery club.


Introduction Session


For those seeking a quick yet in-depth window into archery, we offer 2-hour long Introduction Sessions held throughout the year. These sessions are designed to provide a basic overview of archery shooing technique, etiquette, and rules. They are a great way of experiencing a structured archery session and give you a good feel for what the sport involves.


Beginner's Course


Age limit

Both the Introduction Session and the Beginner's Course are open to participants aged 16 and over. 11 to 15-year-olds are welcome but must be accompanied by a participating responsible adult.

Subject to demand we run Junior Beginners’ courses for children aged 11 and over. To register your interest, please write to

Locaion and transport

The courses are held at the Royal Richmond Archery Club grounds in Old Deer Park, 187 Kew Road, Richmond, Surrey TW9 2AZ. The main entrance to the ground is 20 meters south of the Kew Gardens’ Lion Gate entrance. Nearest tube staion is Kew Gardens. The 65 bus route goes right past the grounds and the nearest stop in both direcions is ‘Lion Gate’. If arriving by car, parking is available in the grounds.


Equipment

All courses are taught shooting training recurve bows with and without sight. All archery equipment will be provided for you. You do not need to buy any equipment prior to your course.


Clothing and accessories

We recommend you wear close fittng clothing, prepare for weather, layers are your best friend. We generally continue even in wind and rain so don’t forget your raincoat and suntan lotion. For safety reasons, you must not wear open toed shoes (no sandals, no flipflops or sliders and no crocs). Please note that for the same reason you will be asked to tie up any long hair and take off any long/chunky jewellery.


Refreshments and faciliies

Hot and cold drinks and biscuits will be available in the clubhouse kitchen. There is a bar and excellent hot food available in the Pavilion across the field in the middle of the Old Dear Park grounds.

Disabled toilets are available at the clubhouse and further toilets are available at the Pavilion.


Coaching staff

All our courses are run by Archery GB qualified coaches and instructors.


Booking and cancellaion

All Introduction Sessions and Beginner’s Courses are filled on a first come first serve basis. Archery is an all-weather sport and shooting is only ever cancelled due to extreme weather (lightning storm or hurricane) In such an unlikely event additional replacement dates will be offered.


If you need to cancel your booking, please note that we do require a 7-day noice for a refund on the Introduction sessions and 14-day on the Beginners’ courses.


Safeguarding

We have a designated club Safeguarding Officer, and all our coaches are DBS checked. Our Safeguarding policy is available upon request.


Data Protecion

Royal Richmond Archery Club is committed to protecing and respecing your privacy. Any personal data will be processed solely for purposes of administering the Introduction Sessions and/or Beginner’s Courses and it will be stored and handled in line with all the applicable Data Protecion legislaion.
